A New Jersey-based firm that specializes in erectile dysfunction has been accused of trying to “kill the man.”
The firm’s director of marketing, Robert M. Schumberg, said the company, whose name is in its New Jersey office, was “on vacation in Ireland” while conducting an online search for “Viagra.”
Mr. Schumberg said the firm was trying to “kill the man” and the results “were very disappointing.”
But Mr. Schumberg said the company had “made some very questionable statements.”
“We’re not going to stop making these statements,” Mr. Schumberg said. “There’s been a lot of misinformation out there.”
Schumberg said the company’s results have been inconsistent, saying, “The results have been inconsistent.”
The firm was sued last year by a New Jersey woman who wanted to see the firm’s full-page newspaper ads for erectile dysfunction medication, including a “Viagra commercial.”
The woman had filed an ad that said the company “may prescribe Viagra to men with erectile dysfunction” but the ad did not mention the drug’s side effect, such as a sudden increase in blood pressure and difficulty with sexual intercourse. The ad had not been shown to consumers. But the woman claimed to have taken the drug before she was diagnosed with erectile dysfunction, and asked the company for the drug for her in a private conversation.
Ms. Schumberg said the ad failed to mention that Mr. Schumberg was a “very good man.”
“There’s been a lot of misinformation out there. There’s been a lot of misinformation out there. There’s been a lot of misinformation out there,” she said. “We’re not going to stop making these statements. There’s been a lot of misinformation out there.”
Schumberg said the firm’s ads are “just a very good way to go.”
In response, Mr. Schumberg said a company-sponsored survey found that erectile dysfunction “has been one of the most talked-about topics about” and that it “has been a very important subject for the company.”
The company is seeking to make a public disclosure of the results and a potential price for the company and the ad.
In a separate letter to The New York Post, the company is seeking to make the disclosure to investors who may be involved in the company’s efforts to “kill the man.”
“There are a lot of misconceptions about erectile dysfunction,” said Richard C. Schumberg, the director of marketing, and an associate professor of business administration at Rutgers University and a senior research professor at the Rutgers Business School.
“We don’t want to make a public disclosure of the results of our surveys. There are a number of different things that can be done to make a public disclosure,” he said.
